October will see the launch of a Thailand’s newest regional airline, Happy Air, when it commences operations with its daily flights between Phuket and Hat Yai on the 26th October. The first new airline start up in a long time, Happy Air is hoping to 'buck the trend', with its short haul flights on two leased Saab 340A, 34 seat aircraft. 'Having capacity which matches demand will be the key to success' a spokesman said.
As well as the Phuket Hat Yai flights Happy Air will also offer a service at the weekends from Phuket to Langkawi in Malaysia. This flight, with its 50 minute duration is expected to be popular with travellers doing 'the visa run' between Thailand and Malaysia. Flights to Langkawi are scheduled to start on 29th October. Phuket /Langkawi departures are planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, leaving Phuket at 1.00pm and returning at 3.00pm.
The airline website, which is partially operative, suggests that it will provide a Premium service to passengers, with complimentary champagne, and a variety of on-board meals and refreshments.
Phuket - Hat Yai flight prices are set to be 2,300 THB and Phuket - Langkawi, 3,500 THB for a one way journey. The company is intending to start a Hat Yai - Langkawi route soon, for which a one way ticket will be 2,300 THB.
