Tropical Storm ‘Mindulle’ came ashore in central Vietnam today, August 24, 2010 and brought heavy rainfall and gusty winds with it. NASA's Aqua satellite captured strong convection and thunderstorms in Mindulle's centre before it made landfall close to the city of Vinh, south of the Viet Nam capital. Now, Mindulle is encountering rugged, mountainous terrain as it continues to move inland.
The Thailand Meteorological Department issued a storm warning today – Tuesday, August 24, 2010, indicating the storm is expected to downgrade to a tropical depression and a low pressure cell. Torrential rain is expected, with heavy falls in many places over upper Thailand especially in the North and the upper Northeast. People along hill slope and waterways of the North, Northeast are warned of possible flash flood during this period.
The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department has issued a warning for people living in low-lying areas and river basins in 50 provinces throughout the country to brace for flash floods from heavy rain expected from now until August 28, 2010.
The 50 provinces are:
Lampang, Chiang Mai, Lamphum, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Tak, Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, Phetchabun, Uttaradit, Kamphaeng Phet and Phichit in the North;
Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Roi-et, Kalasin, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Surin, and Buri Ram in the Northeast;
Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat in the Central; and,
Ranong, Phuket, Krabi, Phangnga, Trang, Chumphon, Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat in the South.
